Busch Gardens & Boating
     Summer 2001
Summer is halfway over. Time for the somewhat annual trip up to the Labrecque's for a day at Busch Gardens. They are always awesome hosts and it's always good to get out of Raleigh for a weekend. On this trip, I grabbed some friends from work: Alan, Kamran, Sona, Jim, Jordan, Justin and myself. We shot out of Raleigh on Friday and headed into Williamsburg around dinnertime. After some food with Kelly, Michelle and a few others, we drove around a bit and then called it a night.

Saturday found us all at Busch Gardens. We spent the morning at the park and came back for lunch. After an hour or two break, we went back to the park and spent the rest of the day there. After all that, we did a little more driving around the town and then came back for food and sleep. We originally planned to head home but after being coerced into staying a little longer, we hit the Jamestown River.

The last time I tried this river trip, it was with Jennifer, Kathy and the parents. And I'm still waiting to get the pictures from that trip. (Jennifer is still holding out on me!) But that trip ended with a lot of damage to the boat and everyone thankful to be alive! Pieces of the boat are now on display in the Labrecque Palace.

This voyage onto the river turned out quite a bit different than the last "Pefect Storm". Plenty o' sunshine which made for good tubing weather and no flash storms to be found. The depth finder was in a little trouble, but nothing a good coke can couldn't fix. After we got most of the way to our random destination (heading up the river) we started throwing people overboard for some tubing. Couldn't have been better. Of course Kamran was having a little trouble with his turn on the tube. No way could we let that slide.

We each took turns on the tube. Some of us lasted longer than others. And some of us were stupid enough to take our hands off the handles. Ooops. Just have to swing the boat around and pick them up. I'll let you sort through the pictures to figure out who is who.

The weather was awesome with just a few puffs of water. Alan grabbed a nice photo of the sunlight slicing through those cloudes. Moving at a nice click on the water created a smooth breeze for the passengers. Very relaxing. Some of the crew (Jordan) couldn't resist the temptation and just passed out on the spot.

We finished the trip, moored the boat, stowed the gear and headed back to the house. After even more awesome food, we rolled ourselves out to the cars and headed for home. Another awesome weekend.
