High school was just a weird time in my life. I must say that I
learned a lot about things, but only part of that was academic. Central High School was only
about 1,200 people, about 300 in each class and it's amazing how many people you get to know
over the 4 years. I was also in band which allowed me a fairly easy route to meet people. I also
did drama (technical stuff like lights and sound) and also some work with the student government
from time to time.
I have memories of hundreds of people from those years. I still
have lots of the notes passed back and forth in class from those years from all those people.
There was even this adventurer's journal that went on for a couple years that was just fun to
play with. The more I sit here and think about, the more I want to type. I'll just put it
in a journal entry sometime.
I wanted to recognize those that had some of the greatest
impact on me from those critical "life-shaping" years. Misty is most definitely at the top of
the list. She and I dated for many years and even again after high school. The story is
very long and complicated with lots of twists and turns, and cutting to the end, let's just say
that she and I are still friends, and she should be getting married in the upcoming (2002) year.
Next up is Lewis. He and I pretty much lost contact after high school. I saw
him once on a co-op session out in South Carolina, but haven't heard from him after that. He
and I shared many classes and helped each other get over the boring times in those classes. He
is a very creative (and crazy, which is a good thing) person and also a good friend. He gave
me the advice I needed when I needed it and also wasn't too afraid to tell me if I was doing something
wrong. (And there's no question that he was a better French Horn player that I ever was.) I sometimes
wonder what happened to Lew...
Following is Cheree. She actually went to Virginia Tech as well, but I really
didn't get to see her a whole lot there. We had our share of ups and down and some interesting
adventures of our own over the years. She's now married (as most of my old friends now are) and living
somewhere in Virginia. She was in the band and a fun person to flirt with... As we got older
we grew apart, but we still talk on occasion. She helped me understand the power of women and how it
can be abused. :)
Next is Heather. I didn't really know Heather at all when I was going through
High School. She was a friend of Misty's and she and I met up at Misty's graduation. The next night, I went to her graduation
from Volunteer High School. We started talking through mail and phone calls and she went on to attend King
College. I came down to see her on occasion, but after a while we just lost touch. I think
that she of all people influenced me the most spiritually. I must say that my she and I probably
do not agree in our beliefs, but she did sway them a bit. It's amazing what can be thought up when
the right questions are asked, and she did know some of the right questions to ask. Thanks, Heather.
This page really doesn't do justice to all the people that helped me
make it through high school. I wish I had the time to go on and on and on about all the things
that happened during those years and all the people I met, but such is the nature of time. Never enough.
