What is New Year's Eve without the beach? It's no Tuna Gorda; it's a new
place and new memories need to be made! My brother and I left Tennessee Christmas day and stopped by
Raleigh for an hour to show him my townhouse. Being Christmas, there was nothing else open, so we moved
straight from there to the beach. It was fairly late when we arrived, but there was still time to play some Xbox
before bed.
He stayed a full day on the banks where I showed him around the area and the resort. It was a pretty relaxing day with a bit more Xbox, some movies and just general laziness. He left on Friday morning to drive out to Chatanooga to visit Lauren and then haul it back to Houston for work the next week. Once you drive from the Outer Banks to Houston, I think everything else will seem like a brief moment in the car. It was awesome to hang with my brother, which only happens once every few years. The next time may be in 2005. I had the house to myself for a couple days after that. I installed a full set of blinds in the main upstairs area and did some gravel work under the house. I also did a bit of IBM work and looked into a research topic for school. Plenty to do... it is funny that I'm more productive when I am at the beach. I guess there are fewer interruptions when civilization is 20 miles away. The first group of New Years' folks showed up a few nights later. Chip and Kris were in the first group with Alan and Melissa. More and more people arrived at the beach and my memory gets a little fuzzier as the week goes on... At one point I think we were maxed out with 18 people there. It was very chaotic because everyone was on a different schedule. And some were drinking a teeny bit more than others! I bartended most of the drinks and I think most everyone had a good time.

When it is freezing cold outside and you want to warm up, there is no better place than the
hot tub. Every night there was another few hours of everyone getting their soak on.

As the New Year arrived, everyone was in good spirits... Tequila, Rum, Vodka, Triple Sec
and Gin. Add some sours mix and a splash of Coke and we're talking a Long Island Ice Tea state of mind. The local
security stopped by to tell us that our neighbors were not enjoying the party as much as we were, but after offering
him a beer, he was cool. Virginia Tech played football that night, but I missed the second half of the game because
the ladies wanted to watch Dick Clark drop his balls on New York again. That guy looks younger than me... He has
to be a spokesperson for plastic surgery somewhere.
The merry-making went on for all hours of the night. I tried to sleep outside for a few hours. When that didn't work, I crawled into a corner and got a good 3 hours of sleep before having to get the place ready for the NC State game. There are some serious football watchers in the group and nothing will stand between them and a State game. After the game, people started taking off for home. I ended up staying until Sunday because we wanted to get the carpets measured to get new stuff installed before March. Kelly & Buck stayed and Buck and I played Xbox a bit while Kelly read some smut book. :) She also had a great experience with a kidney stone on Saturday morning. As always, just hanging around me is guaranteed to be an adventure. She recovered quickly and was a bit happier on Sunday when we all took off... Next trip for me? Santa Monica!
