What an ordeal! (I'm going to rant for a minute.) Alan had to endure the walkthrough and closing with any help
since I was stuck in Irvine, CA for my first few days on the new job. It's supposed to be a great feeling to
purchase a new home and spend the first few days there, but this house did everything it could to make those
first few days (weeks, maybe) a pain in the butt.
Normally you would expect that everything involved in purchasing a new home would be relatively trouble free. Well, the situation with this house is that we do not get the normal warranty/guarantee that a new home would have, since the ownership of the property is being transferred *after* the construction is fully completed. I'm not sure if the laws allow this or not, but the construction company does not allow the warranty to transfer from the folks that paid to built it, to the folks that are buying it from them. Weird stuff. So anyway, once we closed, we're not able to hold them responsible for anything other than what we can prove was damaged at the time of closing. And the list of problems at the time of closing... was pretty long. But if we delayed closing, we'd be losing thousands of dollars in loan origination fees, lawyer fees, etc. Plus it would be longer before it could be rented. So even with the list of problems the house had... Alan and I decided to go ahead and close. Just bite the bullet and get it over with. In the end, we'll still be investing in a great property.

Now when you look at the photos, the house looks to be in great shape... No real
visible problems. The problems are the little details that end up biting you later on. There was a hole in one
of the showers, and lots of trim that was yet to be finished. Most of it was cleaned up quickly, but there were
still some things left to be done. Oh, and there was also this small water leak that flooded the basement floor
the first days we were there. Little things like that... Made me very grumpy at first. (Grumpy B!)
Okay, I think I'm done whining for now. The house is definitely what I wanted to follow the original house with. I'd still like to have more space for a large family event, like a room that could hold 10-12 people, but that'll have to wait for the next house. In the meantime... Schmoo by the Sea 2 will do wonderfully! Our first visit there, although riddled with problems, was still very enjoyable and I think great fun was had by all. Hopefully, it'll be in great shape this fall when I'm hoping to get back out there and take full advantage of it!
